Comedy Fest - Anyone For Tennis?

[Yo, Read it on The Pun website]

Anyone For Tennis? are
Doody (“the one with the long hair and beard and glasses”) and Jase (“the one with no distinguishing features”). The pair explain that their current show’s title Prepare to Be Tuned has given some people the wrong impression. Whilst
some audience members recognise the fact that the duo play guitars as a contributing factor, others are anticipating the more nefarious meaning, i.e. to be hit on. Yet Anyone For Tennis? will assure you that they only chose it for one of those reasons. The musical one. Honestly.
This is Anyone For Tennis?’s fourth appearance at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The skilled pair have perfected the art of presenting a refined musical show, whilst maintaining an air of the impromptu – it’s the difference between being spun clunky pre-meditated pickup lines and being allured by genuine charm, if only then the potential suitor was to burst into an hour-long serenade.
Their lyrics explore such wide-ranging terrain from Drunken Personality Disorder to the beauty of menstruation. Yet, even without a definitive concept linking songs, Anyone For Tennis? will win you over with natural comedic presence and some of the best facial expressions this side of Tenacious D. Also included is a hint of the absurd, and just maybe, a Happy Birthday sing-along to Susan Boyle.
The pair had the audience finely tuned by the show’s closure. So, was it their sheer musical talent that had us enchanted? Or perhaps we had all been victim to some expertly surreptitious on-stage flirting? Maybe they just spiked our drinks.
